ABOUT THE COMMUNITY PARKS MASTER PLAN
Goals for the Community Parks Master Plan
Establish the overall vision for Frederick Recreation Area, including Bella Rosa Golf Course, Milavec Lake, and the Marx Open Space (Skate Park area).
Draw from broad community input to create the vision for the park areas
Establish key goals and actions to guide development of the areas over the next 20-30 years, including phased capital improvements.
Provide the foundation for subsequent capital improvement designs and construction for identified phased improvements.
Key Issues and Topics
Community vision for these park areas.
Future capital improvements to each park area with a focus on community desires, needs and long-term ability to maintain.
Identification of available funding sources for maintenance of existing amenities and construction and maintenance of new amenities.
Water quality in Milavec Lake.
Universal accessibility to all park areas and features.
Preservation of natural resources including, but not limited to, open space aesthetics, wildlife habitat and cultural resources.
Identification of improvements to Bella Rosa Golf Course, including, but not limited to, golf course conditions, layout, playability, programming and connectivity to other park amenities within Frederick Recreation Area.
Non-vehicular connectivity to surrounding neighborhoods and other areas of Frederick.
Water conservative landscapes.
Project Schedule
The Community Parks Master Plan will cover roughly an 18-month period, with the completion of the plan by December 2024. The following provides a general schedule of public engagement for this effort:
o First Round of Community Input – Priority amenities and general park comments – Early Summer 2023
o Second Round of Community Input – Initial park concepts – Late Fall 2023
o Third Round of Community Input – Refined park concepts with detailed information – Late Spring 2024.
